Armidale Refugee Workshop – Nov 5

Armidale Santcuary had the privelege of attending a refugee workshop for GPs and healthcare professionals in Armidale on Nov 5, run by the Public Health Network and SSI. Fay Paris spoke on behalf of Sanctuary, outlining what we do and how we can work together as a community to continue to improve the settlement of refugees in Armidale.

It was interesting to hear from many speakers from many networks within Armidale and beyond. These included: Local Health District Multicultural Health Services Manager, Clinical Lead Refugee Health and Paediatrician, and Psychiatrist; the Regional Co-ordinator for SSI; STARTTS; department of Human Services; St Vincents De Paul; New Egland Institute of Healthcare Research; Rural Doctors Network; RENU Armidale; and, of course, Armidale Sanctuary. The night ended with an open panel for questions, which sparked interesting discussions regarding how the community can be more effective in healthcare provision and cultural sensitivity.

Overall, it was a nice and educational evening, in which Armidale Sanctuary was very grateful to be involved.
