Marathon Fundraiser: Digital Literacy Project
Tom Campbell and Shuku Sunzu are running a marathon to raise money for Sanctuary – 42 km from Armidale Airport to Uralla and back.
The money they raise will go towards Sanctuary’s “Digital Literacy for Armidale’s Ezidi Community” project. The project aims to fund a half-time Technical Officer for six months. This person will provide technical assistance to Ezidi families to purchase, set up and use computers. A lack of digital literacy was a problem in accessing online teaching during the Covid-19 lockdown. This project will provide necessary skills to the community not only for learning online, but also for getting information, doing online banking, paying bills, etc.
The Marathon will be on Saturday 12th of December, and all of Armidale is encouraged not only to donate but also to attend and support our runners.
Their run starts at 6 am at O’Brien Electrical, 4 Southern Cross Drive (off Drew St near the viaduct) and will finish there between 9.20 and 10 am. Tom’s family is putting on a free barbeque at the finish, starting at 9 am. Everyone is invited!
Their route will be up Shambroke Ave, continuing up Old Inverell Rd, left at Dumaresq Rd, across Bundarra Rd following Pinegrove Rd, then left on Mt Butler Rd, turning back just past Arding Rd. It would be great if members of the wider community could run a bit with Tom and Shuku at the start of the run at 6 am, or anywhere along their route, or at the end over the finish line. (To run the last 5 km with them, meet at the corner of Dumaresq Rd and Old Inverell Rd by 8.55 am; to run the last 1 km, meet near the former railway crossing where Shambrook Ave becomes Old Inverell Rd by 9.10.)
Donations can be made at the barbeque on the day of the marathon,
